The only kosher sushi restaurant in Chicago

Chicago sushi lovers have gotten a serious reason to rejoice since the first kosher sushi bar opened in Chicago’s Rogers Park in October 2012.  Since its opening, Hamachi Sushi Bar has never stopped impressing the kosher dining community with the highest quality of Japanese cuisine.  It was rightfully nominated for Best New Sushi by Time Out Chicago, 2013. The minimalist modern décor in red, black and white colors, tables decorated with bamboo, and ample light coming through the large windows create a simple yet sophisticated atmosphere. At Hamachi Sushi Bar, they believe that the art of sushi has three components: taste, presentation and a lasting impression.  Hamachi satisfies even the most discerning diners as they provide only the most prime fish available, shipped from Hawaii, New Zealand, Japan, and Canada. The majority of Hamachi’s menu constitutes original dishes that were created by their Taiwan-trained head chef, Tee Shakya, who previously worked in New York with Chef Tomizawa. In addition to using more common sauces, Chef Tee has invented close to ten new sauces to complement his delicious sushi, such as Pineapple, Pumpkin and White Sesame.
To excite both your sight and taste, try their signature Blue Man Group Tuna maki, wrapped with blue crunch and spicy pineapple sauce, or Black Dragon Faux Shrimp Tempura, with black rice, topped with four different fish.  The Black & White Crispy Rice, topped with spicy tuna, avocado, pineapple salsa, wasabi mayo and sweet soy sauce, is also a good starter. However, what makes this parve establishment special is that it doesn’t limit the diners’ choice to sushi only – they also serve of variety of food from sandwiches to pasta to fish platters. Try their house specialty Grilled Hamachi, glazed with pumpkin teriyaki and served with grilled asparagus, or The Twister - tilapia and salmon medallions in teriyaki sauce with black fried rice, to fully appreciate the range of chef’s skill and creativity. For a great ending of the meal, go for a Crème Brulee or Tee Cream Tempura – their mouthwatering homemade desserts. Hamachi is also known for making fabulous sushi platters for any occasion, with on-site catering available from their skilled chefs. If you are not a Chicago resident, by now you probably wish you were. So the next time you visit the Windy City, let the wind bring you to Hamachi Sushi Bar.
